Meet Colorado's Queen

Hello, I am Victoria Korthuis
from the beautiful Highlands Ranch, Colorado and I am your Teen Colorado
World 2011. I was crowned April 30, 2011 in the Davis Theater at the University
of Denver. What an exciting evening it was… a night I will never forget and one
I will cherish the rest of my life!
Since that night, my life has changed dramatically. I have had the privilege to
work with so many outstanding people and sponsors. I have made many friendships
that I know will last a lifetime! I have also made several appearances that I
hope were meaningful and made a difference in the lives of many young people. I
look forward to a year filled with many more opportunities to serve the
communities of this great state.
I am 17 years old and will be a Senior at Highlands Ranch High School. I am
actively involved in Student Leadership and was just elected Student Body Vice
President. I am also President of the Douglas County Student Advisory Group
working with the Douglas County School Board and administration for all Douglas
County High Schools. Our current issue of the school
budget proves to be a challenging year ahead. I am also in charge of organizing
our Douglas County Schools District-Wide dance - an event everyone is excited
about - especially the students!
I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 4 - my mom always says I was
"born in a swimsuit". I have been a Varsity swimmer since my Freshman year and a
State qualifier, as well. Through my love for swimming, I have proved that hard
work and motivation pays off, currently I am only 3 seconds away from an Olympic
qualifying time. I love the water and if I am not at the pool, you will find me
at the beach!
What started off as a love for fashion has turned out to be my new passion and
business venture! I am currently designing a new line of tote bags which will be
available on line in the near future! I will keep you updated on my "queen's
blog" as the story unfolds...
Remember... on the shoulder of every great women is a great hand bag!!
I try to live my life by the golden rule, “Treat others as you want to be
treated.” That planted a seed for a cause I am passionate about - Harassment and
Bullying Awareness. So many of our teens today have experienced this either at
school or even at home. With the many avenues of communication and technology,
it can be hard to overcome leading to devastating life choices. My platform is
the Stand Tall Foundation; partly because I'm 5'11' but most of all, to stand up
against this destructive behavior and know that no matter what brings you to
your lowest point, you are always able to "Stand Tall" against it and rely on
your God-given strengths. As Teen Colorado-World I hope to reach out to
victims of this issue and make a difference in their lives.
As Harriett Tubman once said, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always
remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to
reach for the stars to change the world."
I encourage each and every one of you to do just that . . . take part of this
amazing opportunity. Become a local titleholder today. That is where it all
started for me!
Here's to a dazzling year!!
